I don't think you have the material type in a production report.
Use COHVPI and extract the material type for all the relevant materials using SE16 (MARA) or MM60. With a v-lookup you will get what you need. Of course, in case you manage different number ranges for your material types, you don't even need to access to the material type.
If you need to run this frequently, you will need to evaluate if it is convenient to make a report in SQ01, SQVI or a custom ABAP report.
